Hello! Long time, no chat. I severely missed blogging and I felt this might be a nice, low(er) commitment way to get back into it slowly and put my blogging cap back on. I know some people say blogging is dead, but considering it was actually my primary channel apart from Instagram for the longest time, I don’t mind trying anyway. If anything, I think it’s such a nice way to complement the short-form content I’m putting on IG.
My hope is to put up weekly round-up style posts. A lot of my favorite bloggers do this and I love getting a little glimpse into the products they’re loving, the media they’re recommending—all of that! I actually debated just making this Robby Weber and not Robby Reads, but brand consistency and all that. Just mentioning that because this blog/site will definitely not be 100% books. There are so many other things I love that I’ll share—home decor, recipes, music, podcasts, movies, TV shows. And now that I’m a dog dad, I also imagine there will be some dog content on the blog!
So without too much rambling, let’s get into the first weekly round-up. Here’s what I’ve been loving this week:
I finished Grown on Audiobook, which I loved so much. Honestly, it is a heartbreaking story, but so incredibly well-written and the main character, Enchanted, has such a fantastic voice and the narrative style of the book is fantastic. I’m a huge fan of split timelines, which this book pulls off really well.
Also, this was the first audiobook I ever actually could listen to! I’ve never been able to pay attention to audiobooks, but guess what? In one of my not so financially responsible moments, I didn’t realize I’d been charged for eight months of Audible credits. Oops! But it ended up working out, because I decided I’d give Grown a shot. And I’m so glad I did.
I’m now listening to The Switch, which I’m obsessed with. It’s so cute and hilarious and sweet. I’m about 3 hours in and honestly don’t want it to end.
Do you like audiobooks? Let me know of your favorites – I have plenty of credits left! LOL.
I recently binged Emily in Paris, which I seriously loved so much. It’s the perfect feel-good show we all need in 2020. Plus, I thought it was so cool to see Ashley Park as Mindy—I got to see her as Gretchen Wieners on Broadway!
On the opposite end, I’m currently watching The Haunting of Bly Manor. It’s one of those where nobody is posting spoilers, but so many of my friends have shared their reactions to the end that I sort of am bracing for certain endings. It’s so good, though! Each episode keeps getting better and it’s perfect for spooky season!
I’ll also admit I upgraded our Sling subscription to include Freeform for the 31 Nights of Halloween. So that’s almost always on in the background. That or one of the Halloween baking shows on Food Network. I have to fight the urge to whip out the KitchenAid every time I watch, reminding myself I can not create a gorgeous, artistic haunted house seemingly with magic and powdered sugar. Ha!
I got a Peloton, and now I’m totally one of those people. Meaning I post about my workouts. But in my defense, I’m proud of myself! As of today, I have a 6 week streak—have taken spin classes for 36 days in a row. In the last 30 days, I’ve burned 7,311 calories and biked 224.4 miles. For some people, that’s literally no big deal, but for me? Before I got my bike in September, I don’t think I had worked out at all since… March? Not a proud moment, but I feel so much better now. And it’s helped me to add in more workouts to my routine. If you’re considering a Peloton, I highly recommend! It’s fun, motivating and you feel great after. My favorite instructors so far are Cody, Tunde and Robin. Shoutout to my friend, Paige, who encouraged me to get my bike. I constantly say to Ashley that it’s seriously the best money I’ve spent!
I actually have a super organized folder of playlists on Spotify (it’s pretty Type A, but it works for me) where I create a playlist for each month. I’m probably not unique in this, but I can’t not associate songs with memories and times. So, it’s nice to have songs sorted monthly. I know where they are, and it’s a handy mini-diary of the year I can look back on by New Years.
Songs I’m currently loving:
(I won’t normally have this many for each week, but these are some of my favorites from my October playlist so far)
When the End Comes / Andrew Belle
Heavy / Birdtalker
Carry You / Novo Amor
Underdog / Alicia Keys
Wonder / Shawn Mendes
Cain / EXES
Saturday Nights / Khalid
my tears ricochet / Taylor Swift
Saint-Laurent / Coeur De Pirate
I’m loving the Kate Somerville Liquid ExfoliKate. They have a small one to try which you need to use cotton rounds with, and then a larger version with a mister. It works really well for me because I mostly just wash my face with water (I know, crazy) or the Bulldog Original Face Wash. But using the ExfoliKate before bed makes a huge difference in my skin.
Any of you who have followed me for a while know I am fully obsessed with coffee. Like, Lorelai Gilmore levels over here. I never like flavored coffee (I use creamers, but never buy any other beans than a classic breakfast blend) but I gave the Starbucks Fall Blend a try and I’m in love. If you like autumnal spices and treats, give it a shot!
I got these super cute toile pillowcases and these adorable French Blue gingham ones as well, both from Serena & Lily. I am a big fan of mixing and matching for bedding. I know you’re supposed to get shams for the front pillows, but I think the pillowcases look great and they have an envelope opening, so they don’t look like pillowcases if you flip them over! I have my eye on one of their quilts next!
I think that sums up this week pretty well! This one is likely longer than most weeks will be, but it was a fun intro back to blogging!
Next week’s post should be super fun—I invested in some items for a new hobby and I’m hoping they arrive by mid-week. I also ordered some Halloween/fall decor that I’m so excited to receive and show you guys, so stay tuned!! (And let me know what kinds of posts you want to see on my new, revamped blog!)
