A Celebration of Harry Potter 2018: Universal Studios Orlando

To say I am overwhelmed with joy is such an understatement. You guys know how much I love Harry Potter. I know to people who don't have that emotional or sentimental connection, it's strange because it's just a book or a movie. For me, though, Harry Potter is a feeling and just means so much more. I've made so many friends through Harry Potter, actually had huge advancements in my life because of Harry Potter and just honestly feel like I've grown and become a better person from the messages at points in my life. Obviously apart from my family and friends, my Bookstagram and blog honestly are some of the happiest parts of my life now. You all are SO unbelievably kind and supportive and a huge part of it is that we love Harry Potter together. So it's almost impacted me in every way! (Shoutout to my mom for buying me the first book and starting to read it to me back when I was five!)

So if you want to see some highlights from my day at Universal Studios (I live in Florida and have the annual pass so we just went for the Saturday!) I am including them below! At A Celebration of Harry Potter, I got to meet some VERY inspirational people for me, saw some more inspirational people speak and generally just enjoyed the fandom and the generosity and goodwill that comes along with a community so focused on love!
So to start, we went to the EXPO! It was beautiful and amazing. Thank goodness we got there early and hardly waited in line because it very quickly became a two-hour queue! The staff, in general, were really polite and friendly for this event. That's always a huge plus! Sometimes when crowd control is a priority, the friendliness isn't - that wasn't the case this weekend!

We got to talking with a woman from the UK named Emma and it was so nice to connect with another person who just loves Harry Potter. I always love making friends this way!

We began with the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter and experienced some amazing practical effects!

Then, we ran to the graphic design panel! Literally ran - as it was in Islands of Adventure and we were in Universal. It was INCREDIBLE. To hear some of the inspiration behind the packaging for the Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, just as an example of the content, was just beyond fantastic. Mina Lima's talent is unparalleled. More on them in a second!

We left that and I was SO EAGER to visit the Scholastic area. We got beautiful posters and a gorgeous pin celebrating Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's 20th anniversary. There was a giant wall where people were able to write what Harry Potter means to them and just. Oh. My. God. Talk about feels.

(Hey, there's Lindsay!)

I also fell in love with the inside cover of the Honeydukes: A Scratch & Sniff Adventure book coming out in June. It's so pretty!!

Then, we explored the merch area and I just fell in love with the merchandising and how gorgeous everything is. I feel like every time I go, I fall in love with it all as if it's the first time!

Then, Mira and Eduardo of MinaLima were at their area (it was larger than a booth, more like a room!) and signing and I got to meet them! And I got to tell them how much they've inspired me in my life and career in graphic design and creativity and all that. I mean, really, when I started fiddling around with Photoshop in the 5th or 6th grade, it was all Harry Potter everything. They're really such huge influences in my life and it was just the best to meet them. They were so incredibly sweet and I'll always remember the moment!!

We then went and watched the actors' panel and it was, again, INCREDIBLE. How wild is it to see the cast of Harry Potter and hear them talk? I was blown away! Present were Stanislav Yanevski, Natalia Tena, James and Oliver Phelps and Bonnie Wright! Amazing! So many laughs and just such a magnificent time.

We then finished the day off with some fun photos in Hogsmeade!

I had the most amazing time! Shoutout to Lindsay for being such a great photographer, too, as well as just a supportive and amazing Hufflepuff friend. 💛

I'll always be enamored of Harry Potter and this will always be such a special day. P.S. if you made it all the way down here - THANK YOU - and comment a ⚡️ to let me know!

LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH! xx Robby

  1. Sounds like an amazing time! I wish I would have been there, but thanks for writing this post. I’m Graphic Designer and the design from the Harry Potter movies has definitely been inspirational to me through my life and one of the reasons why I’m a designer. ⚡️
